How to WIN Boss Battles in Guitar Hero 3: Gear Up and Fight the Guitar Legends
to the Death
Playing Guitar Hero definitely brings out the rock star in you, and
for sure you feel like having the rock concert you've always dreamed of
with each and every song you play. You practice hard and try to master
the tips and tricks of the game, but there is of course one more step
you must finish before becoming truly victorious in this video game: the
Boss Battles.
In order to reach the Boss Battles, you first must be able to play songs
skillfully and effectively while at the career mode. This is important
since at the Battle Mode, you will be facing highly skilled opponents,
particularly real life guitar heroes such as Tom Morello, Slash and Lou.
In the Boss Battles, you will encounter eight tiers, with a total of 42
songs. You have to be able to complete the songs at each tier, as well
as hinder your opponent from scoring points. At the end of tier 2 you
will be facing Tom Morello, followed by Slash at tier 5, and finally,
Lou at tier 8.

When in Boss Battles, you have a few things to take care of: score
points and get weapons. You can of course fulfill these tasks by hitting
the correct notes on time. Watch out for the “battle gems”, since by
hitting them you get a string of weapons which you can use in making
your opponent miss his notes. These weapons include:
- Broken String- you break a fret on the opponent's guitar. He
won't be able to use the said fret unless he rapidly hits it.
- Amp Overload-the notes on your opponent's fret board will shake
and flash, hence a greater difficulty in scrolling and reading
incoming notes.
- Whammy Bar- the frets on your opponent's guitar will note work
until fixed by using the whammy bar rapidly.
- Difficulty Up- your opponent's song will be one notch harder.
The effect of this weapon will vanish after a period of time.
- Power-Up Steal- You get to have your opponent's next attack
weapon. Only use this when you see your opponent has weapons or else
this weapon will not take effect and be lost.
- Lefty/Righty Flip- This attack flips righty players to a lefty
setup, and vice versa.
- Double- your opponent has to play two-button chords rather than
single notes, and three-button chords instead of two-button chords.
- Death Drain-this weapon drains our opponent's rock meter, as
well as covering their fret board with animation. This attack does
not wear off until your opponent fails the song. This attack
however, is available only in sudden death.
Once you get a weapon, that weapon is immediately stored in the
attack bank. You can store up to three attack weapons. You must tilt
your guitar when using the attack you most recently obtained. Use this
attacks until your opponent fails the game and you get to be the winner.
In case of a tie, you and your opponent will replay the song in Sudden
Death mode. In this level, each attack you get consists of the Death
Drain. Remember in Boss Battles, you must defeat your opponent before
the song ends, otherwise he still wins the game.
